Lahaul, Miyar Valley. Gaddi at Thanpattan, summer pastures. He is wearing a Lahauli cap, tweed jacket and has a cricket bat as he has been playing cricket with West Himalayan Holidays trekkers camped here.
Miyar: Houses at upper Tchaling. Note there is no glass in the windows. I think this shows the same house and staircase as in image 6.3.45-. It is the house that still exists opposite Kishen and family’s house, now a homestay.
View from Prini veranda before the arches were made. Rice terraces, called ‘ropa’. Looking up valley from our veranda in 1985 there was only one house in view – Mangal Singh’s cousin. The snows of solang range clear, it was probably spring.
On ridge near Dulchi Pass. Kullu Lama has set up West Himalayan Holidays kitchen camp. Panoramic view behind. This is how trekking at the lower altitudes used to be in the early days.
Parasher Temple buildings, island, and West Himalayan Holiday tents and ponies. It was a perfect peaceful enclave around the extraordinary temple devoted to the sage, Parasher Rishi.
